Art Projects

MyZoo

MyZoo is an (currently unfinished) attempt to create an Artificial Life system within Second Life, where multiple avatars can control and interact with creatures. The brown objects in front of the creatures in the above photograph are supposed to be food, but upon realizing that they look like something else, I have since changed their appearance for the better.

Rock Paper Scissors Infinity

Rock Paper Scissors is something I conceived a while back in September 2007 when I was staring tiredly at some lined paper in the middle of an 8:30 class. It can be best described as an interactive, growing, database of rock paper scissors-style plays authored by the players which I have no control over. Please, come in and explore!

The Deviants

The Deviants was my second theatrical project with Critical Stage Theatre Co. I held even more hats this time as actor, set designer, writer (on of three) and various production roles. We also worked on some elements of the design with the Digital Media division of the Rhode Island School of Design. Here is an excerpt of one of the scenes I wrote.

Quantum Phases Project

I received an NSERC USRA to do summer research in the Queen's University Math Department. My research was simulating a Ph.D student's theory in Matlab using Semidefinite Optimization to understand the Quantum Behaviour of Electrons in the now poorly-understood High-Temperature Superconductivity. No pretty pictures (yet), unfortunately.

The Time Project

I was part of The Time Project, a collaborative writing experiment between students and faculty members from engineering, drama and education on the topics of Time and Society. The result was the play Heterotopia, which I acted and production managed.

Daylighting Simulation Project

In the summer of 2005, I worked in the Solar Calorimetry Lab on simulating the effect of daylighting and the response of a lighting control I installed in the Integrated Learning Center. I simulated everything using the lighting software package RADIANCE.

Aviation Technology Program

Back in Grade 10, I was enrolled in the "Aviation Technology Focus Program". Over 8 months, myself and about 20 other students built a full-size four-person kitplane, supplied by Murphy Aircraft. Mouse-over the above picture for a time-lapse animation of the construction.

Mars Society Expedition Alpha

I was part of Mars Society Canada's two week Expedition Alpha to the Mars Desert Research Station in the Utah desert. Designated the 'Hab Engineer', I managed the gray water system, as well as set up a solar power panel. I also filmed footage that was shown on the Space Channel. The above photograph was on the cover of a volume on Mars Analogue Research.
